Today’s Efficiency

Indovision – super efficient.

My bills were due on the 8th of every month.
Normally I would pay one or 2 days before and all was fine.

In the month of Dec, I paid my bill via the internet on the morning of the 8th Dec just before 8.30 am.
At 11 am when I switched on the TV, my services had already been blocked.

WOW. That was really super efficient.
When I called, the Customer Service personnel confirmed that they have received my payment and will reboot my services within the hour. They did … and I was happy.

I am just impressed by how stringent and disciplined today’s system are set out to manage late payers.

No mistakes, no errors, no human feelings involved, no mercy.
No negotiation, no warning.

Pay on time or else ….. suffer the consequences.

Humility and MUTUAL RESPECT from a President

From the day he contested for Presidency, Jokowi was cool.
He respected everyone and even called his contenders his friends and fellow statesmen.

Few maneuvers were made to undermine him.
Threats were also made to stall the Presidential inauguration.
What we saw was just him smiling and having faith that “insya-allah” in god’s will, all will be well.

Indeed 7 days before 20th Oct, the political battle from opposition parties began to simmer down.

Despite all that has happened, Jokowi even visited Prabowo’s residence to show friendship and future cooperation. A really great initiative.

Today, Jokowi was installed as Indonesia’s 7th President.

He was in a suit with a red tie during this ceremony. Once over, he was back in his trademark long sleeve shirt, tucked out with sleeves rolled up.

His speech was simple. Calling upon everyone to work really hard to build this huge Indonesian nation. And he also stressed on good governance.

Further humility and mutual respect was seen via his automatic gesture and body language. When he was giving away the “tumpeng” traditional yellow rice to recipients, he BOWED to them.

This gesture was in respect to these recipients for their achievements in life. One was lady single mother who worked as a taxi driver and brought up 2 kids on her own, the other was a young school student who was a champion in an international Olympiad competition and the third was to a cake seller who earned his keeps by walking from village to village. He BOWED to all of them. Simply marvelous and a wonderful gesture to be admired.

Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world. On stage when prayers were made, an Islam ulama was heading the prayer. AMAZINGLY wonderful to see was that religious leaders from other minority religions in Indonesia – Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu were all standing alongside the Muslim ulama saying prayers together. What a great sight indeed.
Religious harmony and mutual respect.

At point of this posting, indeed there is much to look forward to under Jokowi’s leadership for the next 5 years.

Congratulations Pak Jokowi. You are indeed a symbol of humility and mutual respect that ought to be admired ; and a symbol that so many of us could learn from regardless of our social status, position and background.

Speed, customer loyalty, marketing logic, sales strategy, frustration ?

I am an iphone fan. Love it.
I must admit Samsung had tempted me many times over, but i am still loyal and having my iphone 5.

I was looking forward to getting the iphone 6 or maybe even 6+. Unfortunately, these are not available in Indonesia yet. Helloooooo !!!!! How  can this be when the potential of mobile gadget here in Indonesia is so huge ??

Has Apple considered Indonesia a low priority country ??
This has happenned before too on their past launches on iphone 4, 5,5s and 5c as well as mini ipads. Indonesia has always been behind time in receiving these new launches.

The samsung galaxy note 4 (in my opinion) is Samsung’s answer to iphone 6+. It will be launch in Jakarta 24 Oct. They have worked with Citibank and Indosat offering attractive discounts to customers.

Now if I had a chance to get an iphone 6 today, I would.
Immediately.

However, as I could not….. I have now signed up a pre-order for Galaxy Note 4 and i will now be an Android user instead. Will be then getting my Galaxy Note 4 end of this month.

But hey I am just one customer. Perhaps other loyal iphone customers have the patience to wait or they could take a plane and shop in Singapore or even get the iphone 6 via the black market by paying 30-50 % more ?

Apple is a brilliant company and i am sure they have smart people running the company.
And i am sure they have thought it over carefully why the sales of their new product in Indonesia is purposely scheduled 2-3 months later than our neighboring Asean country.

What are the reasons ? Better profits ? Marketing sensation ? Long term higher volume sales projection via launch phases ? Stocks distribution challenge ? production capacity / capability ?

I too wish to learn of their strategy if given a a chance to have a better understanding.
Perhaps I too can also be a smarter strategist then.

Well …. anyways …. for now …….. as I am only human …. driven by psychological inherent behaviors … I want my new toy now … and I want it today.
Hence …. I have to be unfaithful.

So ….. Hello  SEXY S Pen.
Looking forward to my relationship with you.

Managers & Leaders

Managers & Leaders

In one’s younger years when one never had or did not have the urge to impress anyone, .. it is may not be a good thing. As one may never felt the need to be appreciated for a job well done.

For when you are older, you will never know how to make a younger person (who wishes to impress you) feel special and worthy.

When you then lead – you are cold.
(In action, in words, in writing)

For those who never felt the need to be appreciated will in turn most likely do not know how to appreciate others

Leadership is about serving others

One must be able to observe details and listen attentively in order to learn …..
When one is open to learning (despite age and seniority), only then then he is able to improve the action on “how to serve better”

When one is able to serve ….. only then will he be able to teach others how to serve …

Then lead –
Continue to share, encourage and coach others to observe, listen, learn to continually improve level of services …..
Every day …. …. until it becomes a habit … a culture.

Add humility, integrity and discipline to the whole process above … and we will have thus improve our own lives and the lives of others as well.

A “GREAT TURNING POINT” – INDONESIA

Although the vote calculations had earlier indicated that Jokowi would eventually emerge as the President Elect, I was glued in front of the TV to hear the official announcement from the Election Commission (KPU).
At 8.55 pm @ 22 July 14, it was finally announced OFFICIALLY that Jokowi is the winner.

As a Malaysian who has made Indonesia my home and lived through the many Presidents since Suharto’s era, I am indeed happy to have had a first-hand experience to witness the “Great Turning Point” of this country.

The election with all the campaigning went about smoothly. It was peaceful and MOST IMPORTANTLY steps were taken to ensure TRANSPARENCY.

With today’s modern gadgets and technology, all documentation were captured and uploaded on various social media sites instantaneously since election-day 9 July.

Parties (quick count organizations) making biased and irresponsible remarks were quickly handled and put on task to justify their claims. In other words ……. the “people” of Indonesia today wanted facts, facts and more facts and avoided “cheap claims and empty talks”.

A “Great Turning Point” because the people here are no longer intimidated by the power of the political elites and I believe (in my humble opinion) “money politics” was not as great an influence today compared to the olden days.

The people wanted change and wanted a good leader to further progress the country.

Jokowi won by a thin majority of 6.3 %. But this number translates to more than 8 million voters !!!!

Today, with improved education, exposure via media, press freedom, “almost everyone” in this country is well informed. This Jokowi small majority win at 53.15 % is certainly a GREAT START and a turning point proving that DEMOCRACY is alive and that the peoples’ voice are heard and respected.
WOW !!!!!!!!

Jokowi at age 53 is a very humble person by nature. He was not born in a family of military power nor any political elite. Hardworking, clean, factual, righteous and with great integrity, he has risen to become the No. 1 Man to lead Indonesia.

I truly admire him and I am glad and happy that he won.
I am excited and I look forward to seeing him lead this great nation of Indonesia which is full of potential and resources to greater heights in the near future

Congratulations Pak Jokowi …..
Congratulations Indonesia.

I like this article ……. on CONSISTENCY !!

“Old Faithful” is the world’s best known geyser.

Located in Yellowstone National Park, it is the most predictable
geographical feature on Earth erupting every 60-90 minutes.

Eruptions can shoot 3,700 to 8,400 gallons of boiling water to a
height of 185 feet and last from 2 to 5 minutes.

“Old Faithful” personifies regularity, consistency and dependability.
In fact, it has been said that “Old Faithful” is so consistent and
dependable that you can set your clock by it, and that is why it
serves as the perfect metaphor for this message.

THE POWER OF CONSISTENCY

Consistency, or what I prefer to call, “Old Faithful” is about
delivering results which are absent of contradictions.

While variety may be the spice of life, consistency, dependability,
and regularity  are the critical aspects of success in EVERY field
or endeavor.

Being consistent and faithful in your efforts not only saves you
time by helping to simplify and focus your efforts, but more
importantly, it helps you to set and routinely meet the
expectations you have of yourself, and that others have of you.

This equates to a positive impact on bottom-line results.

Here are several examples of how a consistent, “Old Faithful”
approach can maximize your performance and accelerate the rate at
which you achieve any goal:

■ Consistently show up on time.

■ Consistently deliver excellent work.

■ Consistently meet or exceed quota.

■ Consistently invest your money wisely.

■ Consistently honor your product promises.

■ Consistently work out and eat the right foods.

■ Consistently pursue your passion and purpose.

■ Consistently tell the truth and do the right thing.

■ Consistently follow through on your commitments.

■ Consistently go the extra mile for your customers.

■ Consistently acknowledge the good work of others.

■ Consistently make everything you say, think, and do count.

■ Consistently take action, and demonstrate personal
accountability.

Consistency is great for many reasons, but the most important
reason is because people like predictability-not surprises.

Family, friends, coworkers, and customers feel comfortable when
they can rely on you to do exactly what they think you will do and
have done in the past.

We have a strong preference for consistency and dependability in
our lives. We want things to work the same way every time they
happen.

When we wake up in the morning, we want to find the floor under our
feet, the sun above our heads, and coffee in our cups.

Just as we expect these kinds of physical consistencies and
dependability’s, we also expect their psychological attributes.

If we had marriages, families, and jobs yesterday, we expect to
find them today in pretty much the same condition.

Thus, we have “mental worlds” of our expectancies about
the world and the people in them that define our relationships.

The glue that holds all of these mental relationships together is
consistency-“Old Faithful”.

Why should we expect our spouses to love us tomorrow? Because that
behavior is consistent with their behavior today.

A FEW THOUGHTS ON INCONSISTENCY

Also located in Yellowstone National Park is the world’s
tallest geyser; Steamboat Geyser.

Steamboat Geyser is spectacular as when it does erupt, it does so
for hours at a time and shoots water as high as 380 feet in the air.

The problem however is that it has a reputation for being
irregular, inconsistent and undependable. It has extended periods
or dormancy, sometimes lasting for decades.

It’s should not be a mystery as to why millions of tourists go
out of their way each year to see Old Faithful when they visit
Yellowstone, but don’t bother going to see Steamboat.

This lack of consistency and predictability gives Steamboat Geyser
a lot of disadvantages.

Nobody can plan around it. You might show up wanting to see it
erupt, then have to wait for days, weeks, or even years until it
surprises you and performs again.

Like I said earlier, consistency is great for many reasons, but the
most important reason is because people like predictability-not
surprises.

Consistency counts – especially when it comes to results. No
one-hit wonders, or unpredictability allowed, as you only get a
lifetime achievement award by building a lifetime body of results.

Be consistently great, and develop a reputation of being “Old
Faithful”.

Everything Counts!

Philosophy on patience and tolerance in management

Face the fact –

       I.          we live in an imperfect world – environment, conditions and situations.

II.          We are surrounded by imperfect people no matter how good, strong or passionate they are.

III.          We ourselves are NOT perfect

Then we have  –

  1.   to still keep our expectations high and strive for the best
  2.   to evaluate the people surrounding us if
    1. a.     their strengths are more than their weakness
    2. b.     their heart is pure and sincere

If point 2 is positive, then we do not have to lose our tempers or get stressed ; and apply patience and tolerance to people who score positively on point 2 above (if they failed us).

If point 2 are not met …… why are we then keeping them ?

Be patient or take the termination route ; no need for emotional outbursts !!
